Where should I send it?
First name and email, and Socrates is yours — free during the beta. Your link arrives by email too, so you can always find your way back here.
Already given me your email before? Put it in again — it will not create a duplicate, and it is how I know where to send the next version.
You’re in. Here’s Socrates.
New to this? The five steps below walk you through it.
You’re in · Free during beta
Here’s Your Socrates.
Set up once. Then it rides along with your day — the drive, the commute, the dishes, a walk.
Runs on Claude — but it gets to know you in a way regular Claude doesn’t. Copy the prompt below, paste it into a Claude project once, and you have your own thinking partner, ready whenever you say “Hey Socrates.”
Enter your email above — your Socrates prompt lands in your inbox in about a minute. Then follow the five steps below.
Set up your Socrates project
- Enter your email above. Your Socrates prompt lands in your inbox (check for it from Monique Belton — and Promotions/spam just in case).
- Create the project. Go to claude.ai in your browser (or open the Claude app) and sign in. In the left sidebar, open Projects and create a new one — the button is either “New project” or a “+” — and name it Socrates.
- Paste the prompt into Instructions. On the project page, open the instructions box — it reads “Add instructions to tailor Claude’s responses.” Paste there and save. That’s the whole setup; you never paste again.
- Turn on memory. Go to Settings → Memory and switch on “Generate memory from chats.” It isn’t on by default, and it’s what lets Socrates remember you from one session to the next. Each project keeps its own separate memory, so your Socrates memory stays about your sessions. (On a few work accounts this toggle lives under Settings → Capabilities instead.)
- That’s it. Open a new chat inside your Socrates project and say “Hey Socrates.” He takes it from there — and it’s the same two words every time after this, whether you’re driving, walking, or doing the dishes.
Tip: pick a voice you like. If you’re going hands-free, turn on Claude’s voice mode — and if the default voice isn’t your favorite, open the voice settings and try a few. The right voice makes the whole thing feel natural.
Driving? Stay hands-free. Keep your eyes on the road and just talk — Socrates will never ask you to look at your screen.
The Socrates prompt
Prompt version v7.13 · updated August 30, 2026. If you set up before this date, paste the new one over the old — it only takes a minute.
One More Thing — Turn On Memory
It takes ten seconds. But it’ll save you hours — and you’ll regret not doing it when things go missing.
Socrates is designed to remember you — that’s built in. But turning on Claude’s memory enhances it, and the difference is real. With it on, Socrates holds onto more of what matters: what you’re working on, what you decided last time, the thread you’re carrying. Leave it off and Socrates still knows you — just not as fully.
Open Claude, go to Settings → Memory, and switch on “Generate memory from chats.” Then come back, open your Socrates project, and say “Hey Socrates.”
Want to hear when Socrates gets better?
Beta testers get every improvement first — and a full year free from the day Hey Socrates launches, whatever the price turns out to be. I’ll only email you about Socrates. Unsubscribe any time.
Stuck on setup? Email me at drbelton@wisefellows.com — I’ll walk you through it.
A small ask: please keep Socrates for your own use. If a friend would love it, send them here to get their own copy — that way I can keep making it better for everyone. Thank you for respecting the work that went into this.
One note: Hey Socrates is for thinking, not for crisis. If you’re in real distress or in danger, this is the wrong tool — please talk to a person. In the US, call or text 988 any time.
